creating a e-zine -- software choices

So you want to create an online newsletter, a magazine or e-zine? What should you use? There are many choices, some of which depend on budget size. My budget size= ZERO dollars. My investigation actually began in May with Drupal. These were reviewed as of August 2007.System requirements for most of these (but not all): Apache or IIS server; MySQL or another db server; PHP ; also: installation experience; templating; CSS, patience
  • Drupal => Opensource. Largescale CMS (content management system); hosted on your server.

creating a e-zine -- lessons learned to date

1. Have a vision.Check. I had that one a year ago (a regional arts magazine with topics both about art and by artists)2. Funding. The amount of $ you have to spend will affect everything else3. Hosting? Find a place to host it.I used some extra webspace I have.4.

looking for contributors

Okay, so I totally hope this is ACTUALLY going to greenlight this time. Sigh. Let's not talk about the technical issues that have plagued this problem, mmm?..looking for contributors for a new online arts, literary, & music magazine, moonshine (details follow).----------------... a few people who would be willing to write articles, essays, reviews, op ed pieces, entries, comics, whatever, for a bimonthly online magazine with a focus on arts: visual, literary, music.

the end is near? (well for web 2.0, etc.)

On one list I read (sorry, I forgot which one) a user posted that they thought the term Web 2.0 would slowly fade away. As we all become more comfortable with the dynamic, interactive and user oriented technology on the web (my paraphrasing), Web 2.0 would just become the "web." Thinking over all of the various technological advancements in modern history, it does seem that when they are new and shiny, there are various buzz words associated with them. As the new technology becomes more familiar or in some cases incorporated into our daily lives, what we call it becomes more mundane.

my projects

Ok, I realize I haven't done a project update here in a while. so here goes (in addition to managing staff, project management, resolving complex problems, etc. in other words the day to day):
  • Continuing work with the CRDL (Civil Rights Digital Library) in the portal design. I think the metadata issues have been resolved which now means it's time for me to get busy on helping generate metadata.
  • Subscribe to publishing
