google vs. yahoo (interesting little visual)

Sometimes I find the most interesting things on the internet...A cliché true, but I found this little google vs. yahoo comparison today. I've no idea of its accuracy (but I would think it probably is), but a very neat little tool to compare results ranking for a particular term in yahoo vs. google.

will portals win the social networking war?

Finally, some real contendors in aggregating social networking -- a centralized spot to collect all of YOUR web 2.0 stuff! Isn't it funny how there is all of this "stuff" and then the next step is to organize it and streamline it (sounds like cataloging, no)? Create the content and then organize it! ;-)Pageflakes has a lot of functionality in terms of creating a centralized social networking presence , plus the ability to pull in even more content.

Speed up your website!

For those of you who create websites, here is an interesting article about speeding up websites (and a free little tool, too!):

Most of the rules revolve around making sure the browser doesn't haveto work too hard to load and display your Web pages, particularly bymaking maximum use of the browser cache.

For those of you who use blogger and use labels/tags, just a heads up, if you delete posts that you have labelled or try to remove labels, it may not work properly. If you need help deleting labels, check this post.A few ways around displaying all labels (and it would seem that this would be a feature in blogger at some point):Use a html links list. deleting unused labels in blogger

For those of you who use blogger and use labels/tags, just a heads up, if you delete posts that you have labelled or try to remove labels, it may not work properly. You've removed the label from all posts, yet there it is in the label list, with a post count. Clicking on the post count, shows no posts associated with it. What to do?I kept thinking about this, until I came up with a few workarounds.

migrating to a new user name in blogger.

I started blogging at blogger long before google purchased it. Once google purchased it, users were given the option of continuing to blog the old way, or move on over to the google way. To entice people to move on over to the g way, google offered enhanced blogger with lots more functionality (widgets!!!!!!!! love widgets. thank you ajax. another topic)When I finally moved to the google way, unfortunately, my user name at blogger migrated as a new gmail/google account. So, although I had a gmail account, I now had a second gmail account just for my blog. Sigh!

snapshots!

So, you may (or may not!) have noticed a new feature here. I've loaded the widget for snapshots. What is snapshots? Well, when you see a link in a post, if you roll your pointer over it, a little preview of the website pops up. Pretty handy, hmm? On the snapshots popup, there is a little wheel looking icon on the toolbar. You can turn off this feature (if it just drives you crazy) or you can change the settings (see RSS feeds instead of page view).Give it a go:Move your pointer here
