hurricanes

This is an entirely personal post. ;).... oh, the hurricane. it's awful. I have been fortunate/unfortunate enough to witness personally several hurricane aftermaths. I grew up on the coast and I love the ocean. REALLY. Hurricanes themselves do not scare me (although tornodoes scare me to death) but I am totally in awe of them and I do worry about environmental/health affects afterwards. Possessions are nothing really. I do feel for the people in nola, bilixi, mobile, etc. terribly because it is always the poor/ailing people who suffer in these cases... or even the working poor.

Quest for a new degree

Ok, in no particular order here are the degrees I'm investigating--Instructional Technology (through the Ed College)--Digital Medial (through the Art School --less likely at this point...)--Something digitally related through journalism & mass communicationTo check out:Other programs --Athens Tech College, online programs, etcAny suggestions?

Project updates

Well, I have two articles that I've been asked to flesh out for the New Encyclopedia of Georgia. This is not the first time I've been asked to add more information for the art museums. Unfortunately, the questions are often ones which no one (including Museum staff) can seem to answer. Funny to think that they wouldn't know (or couldn't go count) what is in their permanent collection, or keep track of exhibits better, but having been on the exhibit organizing/curating side, it's never as organized as one hopes.

Summer's over?

As much as I hate it, summer is almost over. I decided at the last minute to take a class in the Fall. This is the last class I can take before I have to make the big decision, am I really going for another degree and if so, which program? Instructional Technology (where I currently am) or Digital Media (through the arts school) or some other program yet to be discovered? So class starts Aug 15. I have a month to find time to go to the ocean and find that emotional and mental nourishment, I will need before school starts. 1 month. tick tock.

project updates

let's see, news.--artwisesubmitted paintings for a coffee table book of regional artists. It would really be nice to be selected, but I'm not overly hopeful.--submitted a curatorial proposal to a local gallerywork wisethe blog(aka news & events)Well the blog development is going fairly well. As we will have so many contributors, there has been a lot of discussion about policies, content, etc. My role is primarily setting it up and configuring the style sheets. It should be easy enough, but well, there is the issue of trying to work with wordpress behind all of our network security.

MP3 thing

I love the whole idea of mp3s. Unlike alot of folks, I am ready for a true paperless society. Perhaps, it is from years of watching my grandmother packrat. After all, who sees a cyber pack rat? ;) My first response is almost always "can you send me that in email" or "can I do this via email/online"?I do not have issues with the whole digital copyright thing and I'm (more than) willing to pay for music. Yeah, we all made mix tapes as kids ('fess up) and I think that part of music will always exist. Did that mean that as a kid I didn't buy music? No.

happy friday

my mind is full I think. 2 hours metadata discussion/dc element by dc element. publisher? date? ??? 1 hour discussing blogs. Thankfully, we are past to blog or not to blog. Now it's purpose, content, authorship, followed by administrative control. 1/2 hour to learn /discuss software upgrades whew... what a friday.
