Tables + CSS (and captioning an image)

For those of you who use CSS in web design (or have been following its evolution), you may remember the battle cry of "tables are dead" from a few years ago, which was soon followed by rallying cry "Long live tables!" According to the thinking (and gurus) at the time, EVERYTHING that could be done with a table could be done with div layout and a little creativity. In spite of the fact that tables can easily resolve some very tricky problems and can be styled with CSS, tables are still kind of a dirty word in web design.

Internet archive and creative commons

An article I wrote for moonshine...----------------------------Did you know that the Internet Archive not only archives the web but that it has much opensource, public domain or creative commons licensed material? The IA has great stuff for digital collagists, movie makers, & other arty folks.

Disposable video camera (and downloading video rather than processing it)

Well, this is kind of old news (2005!), but CVS now sells a disposable video camera.I wonder if they sell a disposable waterproof video camera ... Anyhow, kind of interesting, but then considering how many phones and cheapie digital cameras now shoot video, I wonder how long this will last? Or perhaps, everything will move towards disposability.

All quiet on this front

I feel an apology is in order. I've slipped off of the blogsphere for a while, mostly because I've just had so much project work going on. I've been busy tidying up my metadata for a project and I'm getting ready to teach a little workshop on advanced powerpoint (online materials forthcoming). I've had a couple of high priority-time sensitive projects drop in my lap, which every time my group thinks we are done, suddenly, one more. Anyone who does project management knows how that can go.
